Welcome to the site...
Hello, my name is Ray, and I live in Reno, NV. with my wife Rebecca and our dog, Lucy... I started this site because I've found it is increasingly hard to find the kind of clothing options I want in malls and major retail stores, and I know other people out there are feeling the same frustrations. I actually look at labels to see where clothes are made, and I don't like buying clothes made in a country known for poor working conditions or child labor. I would much rather my money goes to companies that have concerns that go beyond maximizing profit. I'd rather my money go to companies making clothes in the United States, Canada, and our allies. I'd prefer my money goes to companies that care about things like working people, and our environment.
"Know Your Clothes" is here to help myself and others find things to wear based on how well they meet different ethical categories. I don't intend for everyone to agree on what categories are most important, I just want a place where people can actually find what they want. This site exists to find and promote the alternatives to the typical mall shops, which all seem to have the same basic fashions, produced in a handful of countries(all with terrible labor conditions), and most owned by the same handful of parent companies. I'm hoping to provide useful information, but also to find more places where I can shop and not feel like I've contributed to the problem. It is my hope that others will find this information useful, and that they will be able to contribute and shape this site as a community. Hopefully together we can reward companies that make the best choices and we can influence them and others to make better ones.
One of the best ways to help this site grow is to click on the "help us" tab at the top of the page. Whenever we're looking for information or help on the site, we'll post requests for contributions. It isn't a link looking for donations, its just a way for users to shape this site and help influence the direction we take with information and feedback. Every comment, forum post, or e-mail feedback helps.
